A few weeks ago my husband and I decided we needed a mental re-set on our nutrition plans. We each have separate specific dietary needs. He is a gastric bypass patient and, like many autoimmune patients, I have a huge laundry list of food allergies. I recently read "Super Immunity" by Dr. Joel Fuhrman and have found it very heplful with my psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. Because Dr. Fuhrman recommends periodic fasting for optimal immunity, I decided to go with the three-day BluePrint Cleanse. The cleanse consists of six delicious (no kidding) juices per day for three days in a row. There is a recommendation for cleanse preparation in the days before and maintenance in the days after. I found Day One to be the toughest. We were not looking for weight loss on the cleanse, just a mental re-set for portion control and dietary choices. I know I find that once I start giving in to little dietary temptations, before I know it I have become very permissive with myself. I found the cleanse to be a very helpful tool. I was amazed at the reduction in edema in my legs and reduction in abdominal bloating. The day after I was scheduled to take my weekly dose of Metotrexate and I was surprised not to have any gastric side effects at all that week! I may decide to do these seasonally. I'll keep you posted.
