On Wednesday, October 29, 2014, I had the privilege of attending the National Psoriasis Foundation's annual Commit to Cure Gala honoring Drs. Bruce Strober and Jeffrey M. Weinberg. The venue was stunning, the food delicious and the whole evening really wonderful! Over $225,000 was raised that night for Discovery and Translational Research Grants for psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. Many thanks to all the Foundation staff and volunteers who put this event together. I met many interesting people who care about raising money to cure psoriatic diseases. Some were from drug companies, some from medical journals and some physicians. All were very interested in hearing from me, a patient. It is always very humbling to meet strangers who come at psoriatic disease from different angles and want so much to know what it is like to live in my skin, what is working for me, what I want more of and what they, in their lines of work, can do to help. My favorite part of the evening, however, was hearing from Foundation Youth Ambassador Shane Weiner. Shane is the youngest person diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis, at nine months of age. He is now 13, and a wonderful speaker! Look for him and his story on the cover of the next issue of "Psoriasis Advance" magazine. If you are interested in donating, please click here.
