This City Girl has had one crazy week! I am finally feeling better, despite a couple of lingering symptoms. Therefore, I scheduled my Remicade infusion (five weeks overdue), as well as my annual exam with my dermatologist and visit to the neurologist all in the same day. After coming off Prednisone for my asthma and bronchitis, my joints were really hurting. Even using the subway to get from appointment to appointment in Manhattan resulted in a lot of walking.
Neurologist, you say? Yes. My ENT and I have been trying to get to the bottom of my phantosmia (olfactory hallucinations). From time to time I smell things that are not there. So far, I had a CT-Scan of my face and MRI of my brain, with no answers. One look at my list of medications and the neurologist pointed at one and declared: "There's your problem". After conferring with other psoriatic arthritis patients on Facebook, I was glad to cancel the EEG and follow up visits. They were experiencing phantom smells, too! So, if you are also on Methotrexate and/or Cymbalta and smell things that are not there, don't panic and consult with your doctor, just to be sure.
Sometimes with psoriatic arthritis my husband and I have to make last-minute changes to our plans. He had made Valentine's Day dinner reservations at a lovely little restaurant in our neighborhood and promised me a taxi ride so I could wear heels in the snow without hurting myself (or ruining my shoes). By the time dinner was an hour away, we decided we were both tired and did not feel like getting dressed up to go out in the cold. I was grateful he did not mind canceling the reservation and putting on jeans to go to our favorite pizzeria.
Yesterday was a work holiday for me. I awoke pain free and declared the Remicade to have worked. After eight loads of laundry and some straightening up, I had to concede that I was not pain free, anymore. Today is no different. Anyway, the snow has stopped falling and it is good to be back at work! Until next week.
